No Matins or Office Hours Monday September 6-
Due to the Labor Day holiday, there will be no matins and Fr. Ignatius will not be in the church office on Monday, September 6.
Sunday School Beginning Soon-
Beginning on Sunday, September 19, we will again have weekly Sunday School for our children.  This year, Sunday School for school-aged children (6 and up) will meet during our coffee hour time.  We will make arrangements to have the kids get some food so that they can be eating during their class.  Pre-school-aged children (3-5) will still meet for a short class immediately after Holy Communion.  We need at least one more volunteer to help teach the school-aged children.  Please talk with Fr. Ignatius if you can serve the church in this way.
Free Lunch Program-
On Tuesday, September 7, we need 3-4 volunteers to help serve food at the Free Lunch Program held at the Wesley Center (120 N. Dubuque St.) from 11:30AM-1:30PM.  If anyone would like to provide some food for this, please let Fr. Ignatius know.
September Mid-Week Liturgies-
We will gather to celebrate the Nativity of the Theotokos with a Vesperal Liturgy at 6PM on Tuesday, September 7.  We will celebrate the Feast of the Elevation of the Holy Cross at 6PM on Tuesday, September 14.   Join us for these important feastday commemorations.
September Parish Council Meeting-
The September 2010 Parish Council Meeting will be on Monday, September 13 at 7PM.  All are welcome.
OCF Kick-off Picnic-
There are several new Orthodox students in town this year, and we are excited to consider what this year holds for Orthodox Christian Fellowship.  All college students are invited to City Park Shelter #11 for the annual OCF Kick-off Picnic on Sunday, September 19 from 4PM-7PM.  Food and drinks will be provided.  Bring yourself and a friend.  Rsvp to ocf@straphaelorthodoxchurch.org
Thank you-
Thank you to Amy Spencer for the recent bush trimming along the western edge of our property.
You Are Invited-
Fr. Fred, Khourieh Michelle and family invite you to celebrate the baptism of Eirene Sophia Shaheen Saturday, September 18 at 10:30 am at St. George Orthodox Church in Cedar Rapids.  Lunch reception following in the Michael G. Nassif Education and Cultural Center.  Fr. Fred needs an accurate count for the caterer, so please confirm that you are attending by signing the sheet on the bulletin board at the top of the stairs.
Thoughts on Stewardship-
Matthew 13: 22 … “Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.”
Do You Have a Prayer Request?
Please give it to Fr. Ignatius and he will distribute it by email to all those on the Prayer Chain.  If you wish to join the Prayer Chain, please let Fr. Ignatius know.
Holy Bread-
On Sunday, September 12, the Wiblin/Kuntz family will provide the holy bread.  Thank you in advance.  Anyone who would like to provide holy bread for a Sunday may sign-up to do so.
Coffee Hour-
On Sunday, September 12, the St. Raphael team will provide the food for coffee hour and clean up the fellowship hall afterward.
Church Cleaning-
During the week following Sunday, September 12, the St. John the Baptist team will clean the nave, narthex, bathrooms, stairs and bookstore and nursery rooms.
Food For Thought-
I bow my knees to the father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from who the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height- to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
