Many Years!-
Matthew Arndt was chrismated today, thus becoming a member of the Holy Orthodox Church.  Congratulations and Many Years!
New Altar-
We are blessed to have in the church a new altar table.  This one comes to us from St. Nicholas Church in Cedarburg, WI.  Thank you to Fr. Bill Olnhausen and the faithful at St. Nicholas for sharing this gift with us.  Thank you also to Shaker Nassif, of St. George Church in Cedar Rapids, for the donation of the beautiful rug in front of the altar.  Attached, is a picture of our new gift.
In honor of Pentecost and in anticipation of the upcoming Apostles' Fast, which begins Monday, May 31, there is no fasting on Wednesday or Friday this week.
Traveling Overseas-
Many of our members and friends travel overseas during the summer months.  If you are doing so, please consider purchasing some unique gift items that represent the culture of the country you are visiting for the purpose of donating them to the church for use in next winter's Evening in the East fundraiser silent auction.
Episcopal Assembly of All North American Orthodox Bishops-
As a result of a call put out by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I, and agreed to by the other patriarchs of the world, for episcopal assemblies to be convened where there are multiple, overlapping ethnic jurisdictions of the Orthodox Church, all 65 Orthodox bishops in North America have been invited to attend an assembly in New York on May 26-27.   The purpose of this important gathering is so that our hierarchs may discuss ways in which to foster unity among the various ethnic expressions in the Orthodox Church, in our case, here in North America.  Our own Bishop MARK will be attending.  In order to support him and all of his brother bishops who will be attending, we will be praying the Akathist to All Saints of North America on the eve of the Assembly, Tuesday, May 25 at 7PM.  Please come and join us in prayer, that our bishops be guided by the Holy Spirit to find solutions to strengthen the witness of the Orthodox Church through increased unity and cooperation.  There will be no Akathist on Thursday evening this week.
Parish Council Meeting Minutes-
The May 2010 Parish Council meeting minutes are attached.
Parish-wide Church Potluck Picnic on Sunday May 30-
As May 30 is the fifth Sunday of the month, following Liturgy, we will gather for a parish-wide potluck picnic, at the Gazebo in nearby College Green Park.  Please plan on bringing some food to share.  This is the last day before the beginning of the Apostles' Fast.
Free Lunch Program Volunteering-
On Tuesday, June 1, at 11:30AM, we will be assisting at the Free Lunch Program to serve food and clean-up.  Please let Fr. Ignatius know if you can participate.
63rd Annual Midwest Diocese Parish Life Conference-
Hosted by St. George Cathedral of Toledo, OH, laity and clergy from around our diocese will gather June 30-July 4 for the 2010 Parish Life Conference at the Hilton Garden Inn in Perrysburg, OH.  This year's conference will feature speakers Fr. Thomas Hopko and Dr. Albert Rossi and much more.  For more information, go to http://www.midwestplc2010.org/
Thoughts on Stewardship-
John 10: 14-16 … “As the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.  And I have other sheep, that are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will heed my voice.  So there shall be one flock, one shepherd.  I am the good shepherd; I know my own and my own know me.”

Ask yourself the following- "What does this message from God require from me, His loyal servant?”   What must I change in my life to be able to follow this teaching in both word and in deed?”
Do You Have a Prayer Request?
Please give it to Fr. Ignatius and he will distribute it by email to all those on the Prayer Chain.  If you wish to join the Prayer Chain, please let Fr. Ignatius know.
Choir Leadership-
At Vespers on Saturday May 29, Lori Branch will lead the choir.  On Sunday, May 30, Kristi Abuissa will lead the choir during Matins and Liturgy.
Holy Bread and Coffee Hour-
On Sunday, May 30,  the Valentine family will provide the holy bread.  Thank you in advance.  Anybody who would like to bake the holy bread can sign up to do so.  Food and clean-up for coffee hour will be provided by all who bring food to the potluck picnic.
Church Cleaning-
Do we have any volunteers to clean the nave, narthex, stairs and bathrooms at church for the week following Sunday May 30?
Food For Thought-
People who have pride were not helped at home in their childhood. The worldly frame of mind is tormenting for man. And if this isn't noticed, and parents don't help their children from a young age, pride then becomes an abiding condition. It's one thing to praise and encourage a child so that he does not get disappointed, and quite another to fill up his mind with egoism.
