Bishop's Staff Presented to Bishop MARK
Last week*,* the gift of a bishop's staff, purchased in Damascus, was presented to His Grace Bishop MARK by Fr. Ignatius, on behalf of St. Raphael Church. He is greatly appreciative of this gift from us. Attached is a picture of Fr. Ignatius presenting the staff to Bishop MARK, and another, showing His Grace holding the staff, and also wearing the new vestments that the clergy of the Midwest diocese recently gave him in appreciation for his love and concern for them and the churches under their care.

Congratulations!
Hannah and Lizzy Valentine joined with a friend from St. Barnabas Mission in Columbus, OH to compete in the Bible Bowl competition at the recent Parish Life Conference in Cincinnati. Several churches in the diocese sent teams to compete in this much anticipated event for teenagers. To prepare, the teens studied the Gospel of John, which was the book from the Bible that was featured this year. They ended with a solid third place finish. They received trophies and had their picture taken with Bishop MARK. Good work girls!

St. Nicholas and St. Nina Approved for Iconostasis
Bishop MARK has approved our choices of St. Nicholas and St. Nina. The parish council will make the final choice of the actual images and we will work to have the new icons delivered as soon as we can.

Khouri-Dancer Wedding at St. George Church

Vesperal Liturgy for St. Vladimir
We will celebrate Vesperal Liturgy for St. Vladimir on Tuesday July 14 at 6PM. Please join us if you are able.

Saints Alive Book Study
If there is enough interest (at least 5 people,) we will start a book study called "Saints Alive" on Thursday evenings after Akathist (8PM) beginning sometime this summer. This series is subtitles "Missionaries, Monks and Martyrs" and books that are covered include books on the life of St. Innocent of Alaska, St. Raphael of Brooklyn, St. Seraphim of Sarov, St. Maria (Skobtsova) of Paris, and St. Luke of Simferopol. How this study works, is that each person is assigned to read one of the books, and that person then reports of his or her book to the group. Go to http://www.antiochian.org/sites/antiochian.org/files/Saints_ALIVE-09.pdf for more information on the books to be read and discussed.

Camp St. George
It's that time of year again. Camp St. George is right around the corner, August 9-15. If your child is planning on attending, it is time to complete the application. All necessary documents are available for download at www.campstgeorge.org. This is a wonderful opportunity for our children ages 9-17 to experience a fun, safe, faith-filled week of summer camp. It is highly recommended by those who have attended. If you are interested in volunteering as an adult staff member, please contact Fr. Ignatius.

Do You Have a Prayer Request?
Please give it to Fr. Ignatius and he will distribute it by email to all those on the Prayer Chain. If you wish to join the Prayer Chain, please let Fr. Ignatius know.

Holy Bread and Coffee Hour
On Sunday July 12, the Valentine family will provide the holy bread and the food for coffee hour. Anybody who would like to host the coffee hour or bake the holy bread can sign up to do so.

Food For Thought

The virtue of man and woman is the same, for the God of both is one. There is but one Church, one chastity, one modesty. Marriage is an equal yoke. Breath, sight, hearing, knowledge, hope, obedience and love- are all one.

St. Clement of Alexandria as quoted in "Aflame: Ancient Wisdom on Marriage," p. 16.
