Metropolitan Philip Announces Election of Auxiliary Bishops-
At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy on Saturday, July 30, at the 50th Convention of the Antiochian Archdiocese, His Eminence Metropolitan Philip announced that the Synod had elected three archimandrites of the Archdiocese for elevation to the episcopacy.  They are: the Rt. Rev. Archimandrite John Abdalah, who will serve as the auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Worchester and New England; the Rt. Rev. Archimandrite Anthony Michaels, who will serve as the auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Toledo and the Midwest; and the Rt. Rev. Archimandrite Nicholas Ozone, who will serve as the auxiliary bishop of Brooklyn and assist His Eminence at the Archdiocese headquarters in Englewood, NJ.  Please remember these servants of our Lord in your prayers, and may God grant them many years!

Congratulations and Many Years!-
Congratulations to members Irakli and Rachelle Naridze who were united in the sacrament of Holy Matrimony yesterday at Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church in Mason City, IA.  May God grant them many years and a blessed marriage!
Fr. Ignatius on Vacation-
Fr. Ignatius will be out of town and on vacation August 1-3.  There will be no matins on Monday, August 1 or Wednesday, August 3.

Free Lunch Program Volunteering-
On Tuesday, August 2, we will be volunteering at the Free Lunch Program which is housed in the Wesley Center on Market and Dubuque streets.  If you are able to volunteer from between 11:30AM-1:30PM, or even for part of that time, please let Fr. Ignatius know.
Donation of Olive Oil Needed-
Our supply of olive oil that we use in the lamps at church is getting low and will need to be replenished soon.  The church will gladly accept any donations of olive oil.  Regular grade is preferable.  Extra virgin oil burns too hotly.  We have found that Aldi and Sam's Club are good places to buy this oil inexpensively.
August Services/Dormition Fast-
The first two weeks of August are devoted to preparing for the glorious feast of the Dormition of the Mother of God on August 15.  From August 1-14, we fast from meat, dairy, eggs and on week days, also from wine and oil.  We also have an increased number of services during this time, including praying the Paraklesis (consolation) service on most evenings at 7PM.  The service schedule is as follows:

August 1-4 - Paraklesis, 7PM
August 5 - Great Vespers for Transfiguration, 6PM
August 6 - Matins/Liturgy for Transfiguration, 8:45/10AM; 9th Hour/Great Vespers, 6PM
August 7 - Matins/Liturgy, 8:45/10AM; Paraklesis, 7PM
August 8-12 - Paraklesis, 7PM
August 13 - 9th Hour/Great Vespers, 6PM
August 14 - Matins/Liturgy, 8:45/10AM; Great Vespers for the Feast of the Dormition, 6PM
August 15-Matins/Liturgy for the Feast of the Dormition, 8:30/10AM
Do You Have a Prayer Request?
Please give it to Fr. Ignatius and he will distribute it by email to all those on the Prayer Chain.  If you wish to join the Prayer Chain, please let Fr. Ignatius know.

Choir Leadership-
On Sunday August 7,  Matthew Arndt will lead the choir.

Coffee Hour-
On Sunday August 7, the food for coffee hour and the cleaning of the fellowship hall will be provided by the St. Nicholas team.

Food for Thought-

Neither the tomb, nor death could hold the Theotokos,
Who is constant in prayer and our firm hope in her intercessions.
For being the Mother of Life,
She was translated to life by the One who dwelt in her virginal womb.
