Parish-wide Potluck, Sunday, June 30-
Being the fifth Sunday of the month, we will have a parish-wide potluck following Liturgy on Sunday, June 30.  Please plan to bring some food to share.

Congratulations-
Congratulations to Hannah and Lizzy Valentine, who, along with two other teammates from another church, competed in the Bible Bowl at the Midwest Diocese Parish Life Conference in Louisville, KY last week.  Out of fifteen teams, they finished in third place.

Next Farmer's Market is July 13-
Check the sign-up sheets, and consider how you might help us with our next showing at the Iowa City Farmer's Market on July 13.  This is a way to make our presence known in Iowa City and to contribute to charity.

Thank You-
Thank you to Karen Kuntz, who sewed our new green altar covering  which we will be using this summer during Pentecost and for several weeks after.

An Opportunity to Serve, Be a Greeter-
Based on responses from the parish survey from a few months ago, the Parish Council has recognized a need to have greeters on duty at church on Sunday mornings.  The greeter's main responsibility will be to make newcomers feel welcome by warmly greeting them, asking them to sign our guestbook and/or newcomer information card, making sure they know bathrooms and coatroom are downstairs and ushering them into the nave of the church.   If you are interested in signing up to be a greeter for a Sunday, there is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board just outside of the bookstore.  On the sheet, is a complete job description for this important position.  If you want our church to be more welcoming to visitors, consider volunteering as a greeter.

Pray for Kidnapped Orthodox Bishops in Syria-
On April 22, while attempting to free two priests who had been kidnapped 4 months ago, Metropolitan Paul of Aleppo, and Metropolitan Youhanna of Aleppo were kidnapped by armed men. Metropolitan Paul is an Antiochian bishop of our Patriarchate and the brother of Patriarch John. Metropolitan Youhanna is from the Syriac Orthodox Church. Their driver and another man riding in the car were released, but their driver, a deacon, was later killed. Our Archdiocesan website, www.antiochian.org is providing updates as is the Notes on Arab Orthodoxy blog, www.araborthodoxy.blogspot.com. May the Lord have mercy! Metropolitan Philip encourages the faithful of our Archdiocese to consider signing a petition urging President Obama's administration to make it a priority to work for the release of these two bishops. To sign the petition, go to: https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/appeal-president-obama-and-his-government-release-two-abducted-orthodox-christian-archbishops-syria/xNskxL1q

Do You Have a Prayer Request?
Please give it to Fr. Ignatius and he will distribute it by email to all those on the Prayer Chain. If you wish to join the Prayer Chain, please let Fr. Ignatius know.

Coffee Hour-
On Sunday June 30, the food for coffee hour and the clean-up of the fellowship hall will be provided by the all those who bring food for our potluck.

Food for Thought-

Most blessed art Thou, O Christ our God; who when Thou hast made the fishermen most wise, did send down upon them the Holy Spirit; and by them didst draw the world into Thy net, O Lord of mercy, glory to Thee.
